Trumpeter Jangwon Son earned his Bachelor of Music from the College of Music at Seoul National University and is currently pursuing a Master of Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in Germany. He is also an Academy Member of Symphoniker Hamburg, continuing to expand his presence within the German orchestral scene. Son has distinguished himself in numerous national and international competitions. He was awarded Second Prize at the Jeju International Brass Competition, Second Prize at the Dong-A Music Competition, and Second Prize at the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Competition in the United States. Furthermore, he earned First Prize and the Outstanding Performance Prize at the San Francisco International Music Competition, First Prize Overall in the Wind Instruments Division at the Lugano International Music Competition in Switzerland, and First Prize at the Busan Music Competition. Following his victory at the Busan Music Competition, he performed as a soloist with the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra at the Winners’ Concert. As a soloist and chamber musician, Son has performed on prestigious stages in Korea and abroad. He appeared as a Guest Artist at the Mariinsky Theatre, performed as a soloist with the Seoul National University Symphony Orchestra, and was presented in the Kumho Young Chamber Concert with the So Brass Quintet as well as the Kumho Young Artist Concert in a solo recital. His international appearances also include guest performances at Whitmore Recital Hall at Missouri State University and Glinka Music Hall in Moscow. Son has gained extensive orchestral experience as a guest musician with the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg and as Guest Principal with the Gwangju Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Busan Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Gwacheon Philharmonic Orchestra, and Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, he has participated in the festival orchestras of the Seoul International Music Festival, Seoul Arts Center International Music Festival, Tongyeong International Music Festival, and Pohang International Music Festival. He was also selected as an Academy Member of the Pacific Music Festival (PMF), further broadening his orchestral experience on the international stage. Son has studied under Matthias Höfs, Dmitry Lokalenkov, and Jaechang Sung. Currently based in Hamburg, he continues to build an active career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral trumpeter.
